Transparent Grit
Transparent Grit appeared in Social Codes, the inaugural exhibition on Feral File, curated by Casey Reas. It opened online on 19 March 2021.
The exhibition brought together ten artists working with code: Andrew Benson, LIA, Dmitri Cherniak, Raven Kwok, Anna Carreras, Manolo Gamboa Naon, Maya Man, Frederik Vanhoutte, Saskia Freeke, and Dave Whyte. Each work was issued in an edition of 75.

Casey Reas
Dmitri Cherniak’s artistic medium is automation. He creates intricate code systems that generate a wide range of images and animations, and over the last few years, he has produced work at an intense pace, posting the results daily to his Instagram account. Scrolling through his feed feels like touring through a tightly controlled explosion of ideas. In his new work, “Transparent Grit,” ethereal lenses orbit around a fixed point. The captivating result feels like it could represent any scale, from a vast galaxy, to a tiny atom. As another way to play with scale, the viewer can change the work’s dimensions to view “Transparent Grit” from a distance, or from the inside.
