It’s such a shame I fixed this bug

Shapes fall onto three descending platforms. The algorithm combines their outlines and repeatedly offsets the resulting polygons, building up the striped contours that surround them.

A bug changed how the coloring algorithm handled closed loops. Cherniak later corrected it, but this particular output remained his favorite, a reminder that an unexpected result can matter more than the intended behavior of a system.

The image was generated on 29 August 2020, using seed 634567, and released on SuperRare in 2021. The system was written in JavaScript and rendered as SVG in the browser.
